with Eleni Arapoglou
Sun, November 17th, 3 - 6 pm
Using multimodal approaches to live composition, instructor Eleni Arapoglou will guide participants as they use shapes, fluidity, and stillness in the body as a source of vocal expression and creativity. Participants will work as a group to develop spatial and physical awareness; examine links between body, voice, and breath; and experiment with imagery, rhythm and form to create improvised sounds.
The workshop adopts practices and methodologies from Action Theater, Gaga movement, Alexander Technique, and Circlesongs. This work helps break patterns and habits we carry that inhibit our intuition in any creative process/performance. We will let the body lead the way, and not the mind! Igniting, embodying and vocalizing our imagination to create music in the moment.
Open to all levels – no experience necessary
Eleni Arapoglou comes from Athens, Greece. After she graduated from Tufts University with a BA in Drama and Dance, she studied at Berklee College of Music where she obtained her Professional Diploma in Vocal Performance. At Berklee, she focused on traditional music from South America, the Balkans, the Mediterranean and her homeland, Greece. Over the past four years, Eleni has been performing with her own group, as well as with vocal improvisation group Moving Star, the traditional Serbian vocal group ROSA, the RnB/jazz group Foreign Hues, the Argentinian folk Aca Seca Trio, Greek lute player Vasilis Kostas, Cuban pianist Dayramir Gonzalez, renown LA-songwriter Emily Elbert, Colombian composer Carolina Calvache, and others. She has performed in the Latin Grammys alongside Alejandro Sanz.
Eleni has facilitated various vocal improvisation workshops including Global Music Foundation (London), ISWiB (Serbia), Luna Monti Estudio (Buenos Aires) and her own practice - ‘BodySong’- in New York. She has been a Music Artist in the CARNEGIE HALL LULLABY PROJECT as well as a music coordinator for NYC RELIEF for the Homeless in Harlem, NY. Eleni has been working with El Sistema - Greece, making music with immigrant children living in Greece. Since 2017, Eleni has been teaching alongside Bobby McFerrin and his team at Omega Institute’s Circlesongs summer studies, allowing her to develop her role as an improvisation facilitator. Eleni will be recording her debut album in early 2020.
From the Bottom Up
A Chakra Balancing Kundalini Workshop Series
TBD; we'll be rescheduling this for either Nov 13th or Nov 20th from 7- 9 pm
Throughout this workshop series, instructor Paola Dattner will guide attendees on a journey of chakra balance and mindfulness to the tune of live music played by Peruvian musician Piero Rossini. Within our bodies lie seven energy centers called chakras. Physical illness or emotional stress can cause the chakras to become blocked or cloudy. Healing of each chakra may offer relief to some physical and emotional conditions. This series continues with the fourth chakra, the Anahata heart chakra which is connected to self love, compassion, forgiveness and transformation. Opening of the heart chakra can bring a deeper connection to the exchange of energy with the beauty of the world around you.
A Kundalini practice, meditation, breathwork, and focused journaling will be combined with live music intended to create and enhance group vibrational frequencies. These musical frequencies are tuned to the frequency of the heart chakra intended to give power and help bring balance your fourth chakra.
